CASA
COMPUTER ASSISTED SPERM ANALYSIS

Motility is objectively assessed using computer assisted sperm analysis (CASA). Individual sperm motility is tracked using real-time video capture. Multiple kinetic sperm parameters are assessed using computer coded algorithms to produce an accurate and reliable motility score of samples. In our laboratories, the percentage of motility at 0h, 2h, 4h and 6h post-thaw is objectively assessed via state-of-the-art HT-IVOSII or Microptic systems, using Leija fixed depth slides.

Motility is an important consideration as it is directly related to fertilising capacity. In order for spermatozoa to travel through the female reproductive tract and successfully penetrate the oocyte, they require progressive motility.
